1983 - 2023

First time I saw Madonna—I always say it was the Roxy but it might have been Danceteria— in 1983, she performed this song on a platform on the dance floor, backed by two male dancers just like in this video. I know how fortunate I am that my adult life and my life as an artist align with the course of Madonna’s career.

Last night at Madison Square Garden we had a communal ecstatic experience. I’m feeling it this morning, in my bones and joints and in my heart and soul. Being at a Madonna show is always deep, but last night it was especially moving. A video can only convey a small, oblique slice of what was happening in the room, but here’s kinda what it looked like.
